The Tourist
Office on Commercial Rd is
opposite the Nahar Tourist Home.
The only litrature available
here is a leaflet with a map of
Ooty and details of the current
hotel prices. The office is
staffed by three idle layabouts
who know nothing more than the
leaflet they hand you.
Liquor permits are issued at the
Taluk Office near the hospital.
They can' also be issued at the
Tourist Office If the chief
officer is in but he usually
isn't in which case they'll send
you to the Collector's Office
next to the OPO which doesn't
issue them any more (though of
course there's still a notice on
the door of the relevant office
saying they do).
Here there'll direct you to the Taluk Office
where else but India, Liquor
permits can be sold for around
Rs 100 outside the Co-operative
Super market.
If you intend to visit Mudumalai
it's wise to book accommodation
in advance if you want to be
sure of a bed for the night.
This can be booked at tile
office of the District Forest
Officer on Coonoor Rd.
