Alwar

Alwar has fascinating monuments including the Quilla fort overlooking the town and the Moti Doongri fort in a garden. The former, which was never taken by direct assault, has relics of the early Rajput rulers who had their capital near Alwar, the founders of the fort. Over the centuries it was home to the Khanzadas, Mughals, Pathans, Jats and finally the Rajputs. There are also palaces, and colonial period parks and gardens.

 Getting Around

Air
Nearest airport: Sanganer Airport, Jaipur (162 km/ 31/2 hrs). Taxi costs Rs 700-800 to Alwar Rail Alwar Station is well-connected to Delhi and Jaipur by the Ajmer Shatabdi and the Jammu-Delhi and Delhi-Jaisalmer express trains. Taxis are available at the station, but there is often a short­age of vehicles. So ask your hotel for a pick-up or hire one at the station for the length of your stay

Road
Alwar is well-connected to the capital by the Bhiwadi-Alwar toll road. Turn left off NH8 at Dharuhera and drive down straight to Bhiwadi, the origin of the toll road. Though not an expressway, the two-lane road is well-maintained and bypasses towns like Tijara. Cars are charged Rs 35 (single way) on the toll road from Bhiwadi to Alwar.
