Take the sweet little peak tram (also not to be missed) to the heights of
Victoria Peak for a bird's eye-view of the most amazing cityscape in Asia
sampans, cruise ships, barges, ferries and pleasure boats on the thin strip
of harbour between Hong Kong Island and continental Asia.
Ride the Star Ferry Across the Harbour
Now, the view from down below, as the ferry gently crosses the
harbour from Kowloon to Hong Kong. The skyscrapers get bigger and bigger,
and you feel smaller and smaller.
Dolphin-Spotting in HK Waters
These creatures inhabit the waters of Sha Chau Marine Park, west
of Lantau Island. Also star performers at Ocean Park.
Ride the Cable Car to Ocean Park
For incredible views of the South China Sea stretching into
eternity off southern Hong Kong Island, and of the southern outlying
Islands, take the cable car ride to these amusing acres.
Hear Cantonese Opera in the New Territories
Nowhere else in China can you appreciate this dramatic art from better than
in Hong Kong. Get to Sha Tin's Hong Kong Heritage Museum, where live
performances are held in the Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall. You can also
take Hong Kong Tourism's free 1-hr opera appreciation course on Saturdays.
Eat Dim Sum
Hong Kong offers more than 2,000 varieties of dim sum, tasty
morsels ranging from steamed dumplings to spare ribs. It's better than tapas,
available in the fanciest restaurants and hawker dai pai dongs.
Have Your Fortune Told
Visit the massive Wong Tai Sin Temple in Kowloon, which combines Taoism,
Confucianism and Buddhism under one roof. Then have your fortune told by the
tellers outside.
Eat Cantonese Seafood
Canton's long coastline is neatly dissected by the territory of
Hong Kong. On the territories outlying islands, chefs in bayside restaurants
throw the freshest lobsters, abalone, baby shark, garoupa and suchlike
wonders straight into their woks. Try the hairy crab, a Hong Kong speciality.
Shop for Fake Brands, Chinese Medicine, Electronics
Need a gold-plated toilet seat? Umbrella hat? Opium pipe?
Elevator shoes? HK has it all, and many mundane things like fake Gucci and
digicams.
